Frequently Asked Questions

When does the First Year/Transfer Housing Application open?

The application opens on March 17, 2025, at 2pm. Step by step instructions to access the Application for On-Campus Living can be found on the WCU website under “Apply for Housing”.

Can I select my roommate?

Yes, students can request roommates.  Roommate matching is conducted separately for WCU Managed and USH Affiliated housing.  Students will be able to request a specific person, if they know of one, or search for those with similar responses to their application questions.  Roommate requests will be honored on a space-available basis.  While probable, placement together is not guaranteed.

Is a deposit required?

WCU Managed has a $200 Housing deposit.  USH Affiliated has a $200 non-refundable application fee

Can I apply to both housing providers?

To provide housing to as many students as we can, students are not able to apply for both housing providers. Students will be prompted to choose their preferred housing provider through the Application for On-Campus Living. Please explore both housing providers before making your selection.

Is there a dining plan requirement?

Students in North Campus residence halls are required to have a weekly meal plan.  This includes all WCU-Managed first-year-designated communities: Goshen Hall, Tyson Hall, Killinger Hall, and Schmidt Hall. USH-Affiliated students living in Allegheny Hall, Brandywine Hall, Commonwealth Hall, and University Hall are also required to have a weekly meal plan.

Meal plan selection will be conducted through the Application for On-Campus Living. There will be an opportunity to make your meal plan selection in the latter part of the summer and a meal plan change period when school begins if you wish to make a change to your meal plan.

When is move in?

Move in for incoming students will be on Thursday, August 21, 2025, and Friday, August 22, 2025. Students will receive more information in late July to early August.

Will I be placed in a triple room?

Both WCU Managed and USH Affiliated Housing utilize triple spaces. You could be placed in a triple room.

WCU Managed triple rooms are located in Goshen and Tyson halls. These rooms have been renovated and are permanently designated as triple rooms. Students have the option to indicate a preference for a triple room through the WCU Managed Housing Application in the Roommate Matching Lifestyle Questionnaire portion. Any student may be placed in a triple room regardless of voluntary status.

What are Living Learning Communities and Theme Communities?

Living learning communities have a specific focus that includes an academic connection to those that live in the area. The living experience will be like other areas residential communities however, LLC Communities will have additional programs, support, and connection to their academic faculty and classes.

Theme communities are open to all first-year students who are looking for a living interest with a specific focus. Each community has a certain focus and by being placed in these communities you agree to participate in community living.

Please learn more information on our website.

I am participating in the Summer ASP Program. Is my summer assignment the same as my fall assignment and can I indicate a preferred roommate?

Students staying on campus for the Summer ASP program will reside in WCU Managed residence for the summer and will not remain in their summer assignment for the Fall semester. ASP students will receive their fall housing assignment in mid-to-late June 2025. We recommend that ASP students sign up for the ASP Living Learning Community within WCU Managed Housing.

Students participating in the Summer ASP program will be able to indicate a preferred roommate once the summer housing application for WCU Managed housing opens.
