About Non-WCU Classes

Any classes taken outside of WCU must be evaluated by our Transfer Credit Center in the Registrar's Office if you wish to receive credit towards a degree.  Please visit the Transfer Credit Center: Non-WCU Credits for more information.

These types of credits include:

Test Credit (AP, CLEP, IB, etc...)

Courses and exams taken under the Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, CLEP and DSST programs may be applied toward advanced placement in the University and/or toward credit requirements for graduation and are considered “test credit”.  More information about Test Credits is available on the Transfer Credit Center: Test Credit.

It is important to know that credits earned while abroad are considered "transfer credits" and must be evaluated by West Chester University.  Students must have coursework pre-approved to make sure it will apply to their degree plans.

PASSHE Visiting Student Registration

Registering as a PASSHE visiting student permits courses to be transferred across the PASSHE State System, without loss of institutional residency, eligibility for honors or athletics, or credit towards graduation at WCU.

  • WCU students do not need to complete a separate Transfer Credit Permission form. The grade and the credit earned at the teaching institution will be posted to the student's transcript after grading occurs.
  • Courses taken as a visiting student are billed through the teaching institution and are not included in your WCU tuition for the term.
  • Students must be in good academic standing and undergraduate students must have earned a minimum of 12 credits at WCU prior to participation in a course share course.

Some courses each term may be eligible for a Course Share process, where students pay their home institution (WCU if you are a WCU student) for the course credits, but take the course through another PASSHE institution. After students submit the visiting scholar form, the WCU registrar’s office will communicate to the student if course share is an option.
