About the Office of Information Security

The Office of Information Security is part of Information Services & Technology. The staff of InfoSec manage digital identities, consult with campus departments on security practices compliance with federal and state regulations. We work closely with all the other areas of Information Services & Technology to assist then in defining and implementing best practices to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of Information systems and the data within those systems. We also coordinate security related incident response.

Some of the technology implemented by IS&T include firewalls, log auditing, as well as server and desktop encryption.

Information Security Violations and Hackers

If you believe your computer has been violated by an unknown person, or you start to receive email messages for some unknown reason, you may be a victim. Please contact the Help Desk at x3350 as soon as possible or send an email to


Things to do if you think you are a victim:

  • If you suspect an email problem, do not delete any of the suspected messages.
  • Make a note of what you were doing when the computer started to "act funny," including a date, time, and how often.
  • Do not turn off the computer or log off unless absolutely necessary.
  • If you receive harassing or threatening notes via email or via any other method, please contact Campus Police immediately at x3311. They will work with Information Security as needed.
