West Chester University
Campus Master Plan
We are excited to share the draft of the University’s Campus Master Plan (CMP), a comprehensive vision for the future development of our campus. The CMP is driven by both practical and aspirational goals, all aimed at enhancing student life, academic resources, and the overall campus experience. Additionally, the CMP ensures the University’s compliance with jurisdictional obligations related to West Chester Borough, West Goshen Township’s Planned University Campus District (PUC), and East Bradford Township. The plan will shape West Chester University for years to come.
Strategic Framework:
We have worked diligently to develop the CMP—a strategic framework and 10+ year vision to enhance WCU’s physical campus. In partnership with planning and design experts from Ewing Cole, we have gathered valuable input from the WCU community, ensuring that this plan reflects our shared goals and aspirations for the future.
The CMP builds upon previous studies conducted since the 2015 Campus Plan and incorporates a thorough assessment of our current facilities, building systems, and space utilization. In addition to addressing infrastructure needs, the plan also considers campus-wide systems such as transportation, parking, pedestrian pathways, landscaping, and financial sustainability. This holistic approach ensures that we are planning for a campus that is both functional and forward-thinking.
Community Engagement:
A key part of this process has been our extensive community engagement. The planning team has connected with 22 stakeholder groups—including students, faculty, staff, alumni, members of the external community, and friends — through meetings, surveys, and discussions. Hundreds of voices from the WCU community and beyond have directly contributed to the priorities and recommendations that shape this plan to ensure it reflects our shared goals and aspirations for the years ahead.
Key Goals of the 2025 Campus Master Plan
Some key priorities include:
- Elevating the WCU Experience: Modernized spaces and new gathering areas will support an enriched student and faculty experience while reinforcing WCU’s identity.
- Improving Campus Connectivity: Enhancements to pathways, transportation, and pedestrian access will create a more seamless and accessible campus environment.
- Strengthening Campus Identity: The integration of new buildings and open spaces will shape dynamic, inclusive environments where students can thrive both academically and socially.
- Expanding Student Housing: A significant focus of the plan is increasing student housing options on both North and South Campuses to accommodate our growing student body.
