WCU Human Resources Hosts Phillies Friends & Family Game

On May 29, West Chester University’s Human Resources department brought the WCU community together for a memorable evening at Citizens Bank Park to cheer on the Philadelphia Phillies against the Atlanta Braves. The special Friends and Family event drew 500 WCU faculty, staff, alumni, students, and their families.

The highlight of the night? When WCU senior outfielder and MBA candidate Jake Welsch threw a ceremonial first pitch.

“It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Welsch said. “Instead of being nervous, I told myself to look at it as an opportunity I’ll never have again and to just enjoy it.”

Fans entered early to catch Welsch’s pitch and to see WCU showcased on the PhanaVision Videoboard, thanks to a new brand video launched by the University Communications and Marketing team and produced by 20Nine, a Philadelphia-based creative brand agency.

It was an unbelievable experience. I’m just thankful to the University for making it happen

Michael Bray, Agreements & Contracts Coordinator in WCU’s Academic Contract Administration and Compliance Operations, was part of the on-field experience to support Welsch.

“The Phillies staff gave us the Rolls Royce treatment,” Bray said. “They guided us, talked with us, and made us feel incredibly special. It was a wonderful night for WCU.”

Welsch is no stranger to big moments at Citizens Bank Park—earlier this season, he and the Golden Rams captured their fourth straight Bill Giles Invitational title at the stadium.

But this night was different.

“It was an unbelievable experience,” he said. “I’m just thankful to the University for making it happen.”
