Why is this important?

Equity in Education Team recognizes how various types of diverse learners succeed in different types of learning environments (Addy 2021) and will focus their work directly on reducing and eliminating institutional equity gaps across all WCU’s educational spaces. We acknowledge that teaching, as a practice, necessitates maintaining a culture of continuous, reflective improvement especially with regards to equitable curricular and co-curricular measures/outcomes. Through data-driven inquiry and assessment, we expect our recommendations to strengthen our teacher-scholar framework/model, especially regarding enhancing learning for diverse learners in dynamic learning environments/ecosystems. We want to cultivate a culture of reflection driving innovative teaching and learning practices for faculty, staff, students – for now, and in the future.

What are we going to do?

Our goal with the Equity in Education Team is to establish a structure for analyzing the practice of teaching and learning at WCU. As an institution with a teaching-focused culture, it is imperative that we foster a culture of continuous improvement to serve our students today and as we prepare for the evolution of higher education long into the future. Through inquiry and assessment, we hope to bring into focus ways to enhance teaching and learning and challenge our community to include equity in our teacher-scholar framework. Additionally, we expect to cultivate a culture of reflection that drives innovation and improvement across the institution.
