Course Substitution Requests

All WCU students are encouraged to arm themselves with knowledge of the academic requirements and policies that they’ll encounter and utilize in their time at the university. They should consult their Undergraduate Catalog, or Graduate Catalog, often and familiarize themselves with the WCU General Education Program.

Dr. Bessie Lawton, the Special Assistant to the Provost, oversees the approval of all Course Substitution Request Forms .

Dismissal Appeals

The Special Assistant to the Provost also hears all dismissal appeals. Students who wish to appeal must utilize the Dismissal Appeal Form in MyWCU explain the reason for their academic difficulty, as well as their plan to return to good academic standing, if Dr. Lawton allows them to stay on for a semester of extended probation. For more information on academic dismissal or probation, please refer to our Probation and Dismissal page.

Academic Progress Plans (APP)

A requirement of academic probation and academic warning is the completion of an Academic Progress Plan with the student's academic advisor.  The first step in the process requires the student to log into MyWCU and complete the Academic Progress Pre-Plan Survey.  They can access this survey by following this navigation on MyWCU:  Academic Records tile – Useful Links – Academic Pre-Plan Survey.

Complete, step-by-step instructions can be found on the MyWCU training page.

When completing the Academic Progress Pre-Plan Survey, students are given the opportunity to think through the list of challenges offered on the survey and answer honestly about issues that impacted their academic success.  Once they submit the survey, their academic advisor will receive a copy of the information and connect with them to discuss a plan to help get them back on a path to success.  Once the academic advisor has completed their portion of the Academic Progress Plan, the student will receive a notification with the information for their records.  The academic advisor may also suggest follow-up from a Student Success Coach.  If that is the case, the coach will reach out to the student's WCU email.
