Wells School of Music’s October Programs Feature Symphonies, Faculty REcitals, and Student EnsemblesSOM Season Brochure

West Chester, PA – West Chester University’s (WCU) Wells School of Music (WSOM) continues its 2025–26 season this October with a vibrant lineup of concerts and events showcasing the artistry of faculty, students, and guest performers. All programs are free and open to the public, inviting the community to experience outstanding performances in state-of-the-art venues across campus.

From symphonic works and chamber ensembles to jazz, choral music, and faculty recitals, October’s schedule highlights the Wells School of Music’s depth and versatility. WSOM produces more than 100 concerts annually, serving as a cultural hub for both the University and the surrounding community.

 

October concerts include:

Sunday, October 5, 3 p.m. – Wind Ensemble & Wind Symphony, Emilie K. Asplundh Hall, Philips Memorial Building, conducted by Hannah Morrison and Andrew Yozviak

The Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony open an exciting season of wind band concerts at the Well School of Music with an eclectic program of classic and contemporary works. Julie Giroux’s Epic Fanfare announces the Wind Symphony’s performance followed by Eric Wilson’s transcription of Susan LaBarr’s Grace Before Sleep and Dmitri Shostakovich’s Folk Dances. The Wind Symphony closes its portion of the concert with Thom Ritter George’s lively First Suite in F. The Wind Ensemble opens its performance with the rollicking March, Op. 99 by Sergei Prokofiev. Viet Cuong’s tender John and Jim and Chang su Koh’s Ballade close this epic program!

Thursday, October 9, 7:30 p.m. – Chamber Winds Ensemble, Ware Recital Hall, Swope Music Building & Performing Arts Center, conducted by Andrew Yozviak

The “Gran Partita”
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Serenade in B-flat, the Gran Partita serves as the centerpiece for the season opening concert of the Chamber Winds. Graduate conductors will also contribute performances to this delightful evening of chamber music.

Tuesday, October 21, 7:30 p.m. – Fall Choral Festival, 7:30 p.m., Emilie K. Asplundh Hall, Philips Memorial Building, conducted by Ryan Kelly and Kimberly Dunn-Adams

How Can I Keep from Singing?
The full breadth of WCU’s outstanding choral program will be on display in a concert titled “How Can I Keep from Singing?” The program will feature performances from five of WCU’s choirs — Orpheus Singers, Allegro Voices, Oriana Chorale, Mastersingers, and Concert Choir – with repertoire that celebrates the power of communal singing.

Friday, October 24, 7:30 p.m. – Concert Choir & Master Singers, Madeleine Wing Adler Theatre, Swope Music Building & Performing Arts Center, conducted by Ryan Kelly and Kimberly Dunn-Adams

Mastersingers, conducted by Dr. Ryan Kelly, will perform J. S. Bach’s celebratory Magnificat with orchestra. Under the direction of Dr. Kimberly Dunn Adams, Concert Choir will present music honoring relationships and responsibilities by composers Buxtehude, Shaw, and Guillaume.

Sunday, October 26, 1 p.m. – West Chester Halloween Parade featuring the WCU Incomparable Golden Rams Marching Band

Sunday, October 26, 3 p.m. – Wind Ensemble, Madeleine Wing Adler Theatre, Swope Music Building & Performing Arts Center, conducted by Andrew Yozviak

Repertoire Concert
The Wind Ensemble welcomes WCU alumna, Kendra Woywod and the Henderson High School Wind Ensemble as guest artists for the annual Repertoire Concert. William Schuman’s classic New England Triptych John Philip Sousa’s The Thunderer anchor this concert of traditional favorites.

Tuesday, October 28, 7:30 p.m. Vocal Honors Recital, Ware Recital Hall, Swope Music Building & Performing Arts Center, directed by Emily Bullock

Join us for an enchanting evening at the Vocal Honors Recital, a prestigious event held each semester. This recital features the finest vocal talents from our school, handpicked by their studio professors. These exceptional students will perform a diverse repertoire, including art songs, opera, oratorio, and musical theater. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the extraordinary vocal artistry of our top students in a formal and inspiring setting.
