Leadership Awards

Student Leadership Awards

The Student Leadership Awards recognizes student leaders, student organizations, and advisors for their contributions to student engagement at WCU.  Nominations will be open beginning on Monday, March 2, and will close on Friday, March 20.  Winners and their guests will be invited to a brunch reception on April 19th. Any questions can be directed to engagement@wcupa.edu.

Nomination Submission Information:

Note, to be eligible to win an award, recipients must be in good standing with the Office of Student Conduct and have a 2.0 GPA.

How do I submit a letter?

Simply attach a typed letter of support (one page or less, single-spaced, no smaller then size 10 font) for an individual or group whom you feel is deserving of one of the awards listed OR fill in the box area on the electronic submission sheet to explain why your nominee(s) is/are worthy of consideration. Please include your name and email address on the nomination letter, as well as the full name and email address of the person you are nominating (if known).

Only one page? Yes, we only accept a one-page nomination, but it can be single-spaced with narrow margins. Because of the number of award nominations we receive, we have found that nominators can do a great job of nominating with just one page.

Who can nominate?

Students, faculty, and staff can submit letters. Letters will only be accepted for current undergraduate students and recognized student organizations. WCU faculty/staff who serve as student organization advisors to recognized student organizations may be nominated for the Thomas J. Purce Organization Advisor of the Year. Individuals and groups can be nominated several times by different people - no more than 5 nominations for each individual for a category.  Nominees may self-nominate.

Sample Nomination Letters

A good nomination letter is well written, gives specific examples connected back to the award, and assumes the reader doesn't know the nominee. A few examples are linked below.
